Francis Coppola’s has two
elements in his life code: Earth and Wood. His Earth is clearly stronger than
Wood. So Water-Wood serves as favor. With that conclusion, you can easily see
that 1(1) and 10(12) are the highlight in his life.
Coppola shot lots of short
films when he was learning movie in college. He started his professional in the
late 60s. He founded Zoetrope studio in 1969 along with George Lucas. His first
Academy Award was for 1970 movie Patton, as the writer of the script. But his
real success as the director, is from the 1970s movies, The God Father (1972)
and The God Father 2 (1974). Both movies won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
And God Father 2 became the first
sequel to win that award.
Following the success of
The God Father 1 and 2, his next movie, The Conversation (1974) won the Palme
d'Or at the 1974 Cannes Film Festival. Then his next movie Apocalypse Now (1979)
won the Palme d'Or at the 1979 Cannes Film Festival again. Coppola is one of
only eight filmmakers to win two Palme d'Or awards.
As the fortune shows, Coppola’s
success started 1969. And his career started to go downhill after 1989. Although
The God Father 3 and Bram Stoker's Dracula are also high quality movies, they
are not as successful as before. And Coppola’s decline is obvious. Quote
Wikipedia: “While a number of Coppola's ventures in the 1980s and 1990s were
critically lauded, he has never quite achieved the same commercial success with
films as in the 1970s.” To me, that’s to say 1970s was the best time of Francis
Coppola, as his fortune indicates.
