basic knowlege 1: what is a life code & how to calculate

I write this blog assuming people can understand me. I do that because: ideally, you are supposed to finish my book before reading my blog. However, I know that is not likely. So I decide to show you the basics of the theory briefly. And here goes.

I will break it to a few parts. The first part is: what is a life code.

Well, a life code is your birth year, birth month, birth date and birth hour. Each of the values is represented by 2 numbers, a decimal number and a zodiac number. If you see a number is parenthesis, that’s my way to tell you it is a zodiac number, because a decimal 5 is different than a zodiac (5). So, the first year is 1(1), the second year is 2(2), the third year is 3(3)…the tenth year is 10(10), what about the eleventh number? It is 1(11), right? This is because the decimal number turns back to 1 after 10. So the twelfth number is 2(12), the thirteenth number is 3(1) and so on. Understand? If you count in this manner, the largest number you can count to is 10(12), which is the 60th number, and the next number comes back to 1(1). Using the same way to count birth year, month, date and hour, you can come up 8 numbers for a given time.

For example: in the previous article, I said Dmitry Medvedev’s life code is:

Gambler
Gambler
Slaughter
2
2
8
4
(6)
(10)
(8)
(10)
Judge
Comrade
Owl
Comrade

I simply indicated Medvedev was born in 2(6) year, 2(10) month, 8(8) day and 4(10) hour. So from left to right, the four columns are year column, month column, date column and hour column.

The next question is: how to find out the numbers?

The first step is to find out the year column.

The formula is:  Divide your birth year by 60, find out the reminder, and minus 3. The number you get will be a number between 0 and 59. For example, let’s say you were born in 1985. If you divide 1985 by 60, the reminder will be 5. 5 - 3= 2. So 1985 is the second number which is 2(2). Let’s say you were born in 2016. If you divide 2016 by 60, the reminder will be 36. 36-3=33. So 2016 is the 33th number which is 3(9). Medvedev was born in 1965. After the calculation, his year column is the 42th number which is 2(6). It is hard to tell what the 42th number corresponds to, so you can use the next chart. I will refer the chart as the original numeral chart.

There are some easy ways: because the decimal code cycles every 10 years, and the last digit of your birth year also cycles every 10 years, so there is a fixed relation: If the last digit of your birth year is 1, such as 1991, 2001 or 1401, the decimal year code must be 8. Thus if the last digit of the year is 2, the decimal year code will be 9 and so on. The zodiac year codes are corresponding with the Chinese Zodiac signs, so if you know your Zodiac sign, you don’t have to calculate your zodiac year code: Rat=(1) Ox=(2) Tiger=(3) Rabbit=(4) Dragon=(5) Snake=(6) Horse=(7) Sheep=(8) Monkey=(9) Rooster=(10) Dog=(11) Pig=(12).

There are some other simple ways, for example, you can use a reference year. I usually use 1984, because it’s a 1(1) year. This is how I find out the code of 1997: 1984 is a 1 year, once every 10 years such as 1994 is also 1, 1997 is 3 more years than that, so the first number of 1997 is 4; 1984 is a (1) year, once every 12 years is another (1) such as 1996, so 1997 must be (2). So 1997 is a 4(2) year.

The next step is the month column.

First, please go to Wikipedia to learn “the 24 solar terms”.
So the earth orbits the sun, right? A circle is 360 °. 24 solar terms divide the circle into 24 parts, each part is 15°. Every 2 parts construct a month. The (1) month is from the Major Snow to the Minor Cold, which is from Dec 7 to Jan 6. Anyone who is born in between has the number (1) zodiac month code; the (2) month is from the Minor Cold to the Start of Spring; the (3) month is from the Start of Spring to Awakening of Insects, and so on. A new year starts at the Start of Spring, which means the (3) month is actually the first month of a year.

In the west, we have the 12 astrological signs. Just like Chinese months, 24 solar terms divide the circle into 24 parts, each part is 15°. Every 2 parts are represented by an astrological sign. Unfortunately, 12 astrological signs and 12 Chinese months don’t match. They are arranged in a staggered manner. For example: The (12) month is from the middle of Scorpio to the middle of Sagittarius; the (1) month is from the middle of Sagittarius to the middle of Capricorn and so on.

Once you have the zodiac month code, we can calculate the decimal month code. Decimal month code = Decimal year code times 2 + (Zodiac month code minus 2). Please note that if the zodiac month code is 2, 2-2=0, we don’t use 0, we use 12 instead.

Day column is difficult to calculate, but there are still multiple ways to find it out.

The formula is: (the year-1900) * 5 + (the year-1900+3) / 4 + 9 + the dates from January the 1 to the date you want to calculate
For example: May 5, 2006
(2006-1900)*5 + (2006-1900+3)/4 + 9 + (31+28+31+30+5)
= 106*5 + 109/4 + 9 + 125
= 530 + 27.25 + 9 + 125
= 691.25
Round down to whole number A=691
The remain of 691/60 is 31, according to the original numerals chart, the 31st number is 1 (7).

Or:
The remain of 31/ 10 is 1
The remain of 31/12 is 7

So the day column of May 5, 2006 is 1(7).

This formula only work between the year 1901 and 2101, including the year 1901 and 2101. Because 1900 and 2100 are not leap years although they can be divided by 4 with no remain. You can also use a 1(1) day you know as a reference (such as January 31, 1984), find out how many days in the between the reference day and your target date (lots of calendar websites provide the tool to help you calculate the duration between two dates), minus all the multiples of 60 and check the original numeral chart for result.

The hour column is like the month column, we find the zodiac code first, because we have 12 months and 24 hours in realty, so the zodiac code is the first to find.

The rule is simple: every 2 modern hours equalize to 1 ancient Chinese hour
From 11pm to 1 am is the (1) hour
1 am to 3 am is the (2) hour
3 am to 5 am is the (3) hour
5 am to 7 am is the (4) hour
7 am to 9 am is the (5) hour
9 am to 11 am is the (6) hour
11 am to 1 pm is the (7) hour
1 pm to 3 pm is the (8) hour
3 pm to 5 pm is the (9) hour
5 pm to 7 pm is the (10) hour
7 pm to 9 pm is the (11) hour
9 pm to 11 pm is the (12) hour
Decimal hour code = decimal day code * 2 + (zodiac hour code -2)

Like I said, it is not easy, right? In China, we have a special calendar to do all the calculation for you. You select a date, it will tell you what the codes are for the day, and all you need to do is to figure out the hour column. I will introduce the calendar in the future.

  1. Hi, sir, I'm failing to comprehend a certain aspect of this calculation, which I've failed to make it past. In your book, you outlined another method for calculating the year then the 1985/60 example, so I managed to make it past that, and I managed to make it past the month as well. Anyhow, here I am and the /60 seems to be the only solution, but I don't understand your way of calculating.

When you do 1985/60 you get 5.5 (obviously then apply -3 after), and I'm wondering how I've misunderstood, 'cause all I get is 33. something. And even other years like 2004, or 2011, don't really differ much at all in a calculation like this, being 33.4 and 33.5 when *I* divide it by 60. Anyway I'm at this part:

"The remain of 691/60 is 31, according to the original numerals chart, the 31st number is 1 (7).

    Or:
    The remain of 31/ 10 is 1
The remain of 31/12 is 7"

And much the same my calculation differs much from yours. 691/60 = 11.5 . 31/10 and 31/12 give me 3.1 and 2.58 respectively. Obviously, you're way of dividing seems very differently from what I've learned and even what google suggests, so I'm sure there's some aspect I must have missed. Would you mind sharing how this can be done? If you want to use an example feel free to use 632 since it's currently what I'm calculating anyway. Thank you, and I apologize if this is left at an inconvenient place, I would've tried to contacted you some other way, since I'm not sure you'll even see this, but I didn't know how. Thanks anyway, see ya.

    1. Hi, if you do 1985/60, you will get 33. But it is the result of 1985/60. What I want you to do is to get the REMINDER of 1985/60. Reminder means the amount left over after division. For example: 19 ÷ 5 is "3 with a remainder of 4".
      Plus, Please read this: https://hhftn.blogspot.ca/2016/12/a-question-that-confused-my-reader.html

  2. Thankyou brother for this article, but I am still confuse with this... if born in 2016. If you divide 2016 by 60, the reminder will be 36. 36-3=33. So 2016 is the 33th number which is 3(9). please help me how to got 36 for the reminder, 33th and 3(9). please help me. Thnakyou
