Mu Tiezhu was a
Chinese basketball player. He had a height of 228 cm and a weight of 160 kg, he
was one of the largest and tallest players in China.
Mu and his family
were travelling homeless since they lost their home in the flood. As you may
know, sports are managed up-down in the socialist counties. Socialism means control things
from the top to bottom (instead of growing up from bottom to top). Mu didn't choose to be a basketball player, he was decided to be a basketball player.
In 1968, an officer of Administration of Sport of the Shan Dong Province found Mu Tiezhu who was selling fish on the street. He recommended Mu to be a basketball player because of his size. Then Mu was rejected by the provincial team because he never had any training. The national Administration of Sport heard about the giant, traded Mu with 20 basketballs. Getting into the national Administration of Sport, Mu was assigned to a track and field coach. He was trained to run for a year without touching a basketball. Then someone else head about him, and gave him basketball training, that’s how he started. The point is, although Mu’s basketball career didn’t start 1968, 1968 was really the changing year.

Mu started to play
professional league in 1972, and was selected to the national team in 1978. And
his biggest achievement was winning the Asian Games of 1978. Because of his
size and the relatively low level of playing at the time, he scores 30 points
at least in every game. And he once scored 80 points in a game. He retired
1988.
Mu Tiezhu was
not athletic, he was just huge. That’s why he became very sick after
retirement. He died 2008.
